Chilled Water System Piping (Decoupler), Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, MD

This project is based on previous study recommendations BFA provided Navy Public Works in 1985. The chiller plant at Bldg 16 supplies nearly all chilled water required by the NNMC complex. All plant chillers have been replaced in recent years. BFA is providing the design package to convert the existing chilled water system into a primary/secondary decoupler loop piping system for the Chiller Plant and PWC owned distribution system at the Medical Center.

Drawings include proper layering & polygons/cells to allow them to be used in a GIS of the chilled water system. This will form the first phase of a Utility Business Intelligence System. Additional work provides Direct Digital Control (DDC) at each building being supplied by the Chiller Plant. BFA is also providing a piping and equipment schematic of the Chilled Water Plant System and it's components. The schematic includes: cooling towers, chillers, pumps, valves, chilled water supply and return piping, cooling tower supply and return piping and other serviceable appurtenances. The equipment information is in a format that is usable in the Navy's Maximo Database. A recent modification to this project increased the ECC of $1,500,000 to $ 5,905,093. The modification expands the scope of work to include: Expansion Tanks, Flow Sensors, Chiller Controls, additional Chilled Water Distribution, Air Controls, and a new Primary Feeder.
